A walk in honour of a Bridport mother who died in 2014 looks set to have raised more than £5,000 for Fortuneswell Cancer Trust and to support local Bridport schools with arts and outdoor learning.
Some 145 began the walk at Charmouth along the coast to Seatown, where they were joined by a further 95 walkers for the second stage of the walk to Symondbsury.
The second Rebecca Harris Memorial Walk took place in glorious weather on Sunday. Participants of all ages wore purple, her favourite colour, in Rebecca’s memory.
At the end of the walk, they gathered together in the grounds of Symondsbury School for music, refreshments, a raffle and an auction. Businesses including Kitson and Trotman, Dorshi, The Anchor Inn, River Cottage, Symondsbury Estate, Balsons and Morrisons supported the event.
Rebecca’s parents, Robert and Julie Harris, officially opened the school’s new garden area which benefited from funding from the first memorial walk in 2015.
The garden was designed and built by pupils from the school’s gardening club. It includes a sensory area, a wide range of wildlife habitats and a hammock.
