Plans for a new ‘care village’ to be located at the Flood Lane site in Bridport are progressing well. This will see the provision of a new care home to replace the ageing Sidney Gale House and day centre facility and provide an extra care housing scheme.
As part of the plans, the current Bridport Connect day centre facility for adults will move to new premises. Last week, Dorset County Council’s Cabinet heard that the re-provision of service, at least in the short term, will be moved to the St. Andrews site in the town. The current Bridport Connect building is out-dated and nearing the end of its usable life.
Cllr Jill Haynes, Dorset County Council Cabinet member for health and care said:
“This is really good news for everyone using the services at Bridport Connect. For some time now, the current facilities in the town have been in real need of modernisation.
“Although the move to the St. Andrews site is only a temporary one, it will make sure that services are still provided while the new site is being developed.
“This is a very exciting time for Bridport and we look forward to continuing working with clients, both old and new, to help them live safe, healthy and independent lives within their community.”
Working with partners across all sectors, the county council is committed to maximising the use the public assets for housing and for Health, Care and Support Services.
There is considerable growth in numbers of older people and adults with complex physical disabilities and mental health issues in Dorset.
The right provision of services in the right locations is paramount to helping people to live as independently as possible.
