West Bay Coastguards are among those searching for a missing dog at Thorncombe Beacon, near Bridport.
The whole team was alerted yesterday afternoon (Thursday) by Solent Coastguard NMOC (National Maritime Operations Centre) to assist with a missing family dog last seen in the Thorncombe Beacon area.
The Shar-Pei named ‘Shadow’ slipped its lead earlier in the day and ran off just to the west of Thorncombe Beacon and had not been seen since.
In a report on the Coastguards’ Facebook page, the team states: “Friends and family members had been searching the cliffs throughout the day as well as launching local appeals on social media but to no avail.
“West Bay Coastguard were tasked with meeting one of the dog’s owners to gather information and assist with searching any high risk area’s to ensure that people were not putting themselves in danger whilst searching for Shadow.”
The team went onto the cliffs to re-search some of the areas, and an officer attached to ropes was also put onto the cliff edge to have a good binocular search of the mid and lower cliff levels.
Unfortunately no sightings of Shadow were made and once the various searches were complete, the team was stood down to return to station.
If you have any information regarding the whereabouts of Shadow, please contact his owners via 07854 086442.
If Shadow is found to be in a place of difficulty, DO NOT attempt rescue, instead DIAL 999 and ask for the COASTGUARD.
