The Town Council is requesting the review as the parish boundaries have not been reviewed for some considerable time even though both the District Council and County Council boundaries have been reviewed and varied.
The Town Council believes the scale of the new development proposed for Vearse Farm, that currently sits within the Parish of Symondsbury, will have a significant impact on town services at a time when the Town Council, as part of the local government reorganisation, is potentially looking at taking on more services that benefit the town and the wider area.
The Town Council believes the new residents of the Vearse Farm will look to the town for their services and community focus. The Town Council therefore considers that the Bridport parish boundary should be reviewed, and has stated that it will work with Symondsbury Parish Council to try to develop a proposal for submission to the District Council that both local councils can support.
The review has to be completed within 12 months, and will include wide consultation.
The review is conducted by West Dorset District Council and the public notice of the start of the review can be viewed here. More information will appear on this site as the review progresses.
