Bridport is mourning the loss of Allan Pearce, known to so many as the avuncular steward at the Electric Palace since 2010.
To Palace customers, Allan, who was 85, was the face of the Palace, always smart and often in fancy dress. He was also a steward for the Frolic disco.
Staff and customers paid a tribute to Allan on the Palace’s Facebook page: “It is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to Allan, our most faithful and enthusiastic steward. An institution in himself, Allan could be found at the Electric Palace stewarding all kinds of events – he was a pleasure to work with and his love of meeting people always shone through.
“If Allan wasn’t in his classic tuxedo he could be found in full Halloween costume, dressed as Father Christmas and even, on one occasion, as a carrot. If you had the pleasure of meeting Allan you will know how wonderful he was and he will be remembered with fondness and love here and throughout Bridport. Goodbye Allan, we will miss you.”
Born in Morden, Surrey, Allan was a printer for much of his working life. He moved to Bridport in 1997. You can find out more about him in this interview he did for the Marshwood Vale Magazine.
