Kitson & Trotman Partner Richard King is this year’s President of the Melplash Agricultura Society.
He was born and brought up in Derbyshire. After qualifying as a Solicitor in London he moved to Bridport in 1984 and became a Partner at Kitson & Trotman in 1998.
Richard lives in Netherbury, is married to Ros and has two grown-up children. He has been actively involved in the Melplash Agricultural Society for more than 20 years.
After learning how to lay a hedge Dorset style on the Society’s free training day and then entering the Society’s Annual Hedge Laying competition he was interviewed for a feature on Radio 4’s Farming Today programme.
Richard is a Director of the Society and Kitson & Trotman are the Society’s Honorary Solicitors as well as the main sponsor of the annual Hedge Laying and Ploughing Match.
He said: “The Melplash Agricultural Society is a big part of life here in West Dorset. Over the years it has played a significant role in my life. Through the annual Hedge Laying Competition I’ve learned how to lay a hedge – although I’ve still not managed to get out of the Novice section!
“Due to the encouragement of the people I have met through the society I now have a flock of Dorset Down sheep and I am currently renovating (slowly) a 1961 David Brown tractor which I use most weekends.”
