Bridport’s first community fridge has been officially opened by local celebrity chef Lesley Waters at the Chapel in the Garden.
The idea is for people to drop off unwanted food to which other people can help themselves.
Sarah Jones, from the mental health recovery team START, which is running the fridge scheme, said: “It’s a huge project for us and its aim is to play a part in tackling food waste and bringing everyone together in sharing food, which would otherwise be put in the bin. They’re aren’t many community fridges in this area and its been quite a journey to get here.”
Volunteers are also needed to help run the facility which has the backing of five local food businesses, including Morrison’s.
