Ashley Painter, Bridport Kitchen Manager at school meals provider Local Food Links (LFL), is delighted to be one of 3 finalists for the prestigious BBC Cook of the Year category in this year’s Food and Farming Awards.
This award recognises that a good canteen kitchen serving nutritious, cleverly-budgeted food transforms lives and it celebrates the people who are creating change through food. Winners will be announced on Wednesday 12th June.
As Kitchen Manager at the Bridport kitchen, Ashley and his team produce more than 1,200 freshly prepared, School Food Standard compliant meals every day to 18 rural schools.
Ashley said that he was,
“really proud to be nominated and shortlisted for the award, and proud of the meals the Bridport team cook from scratch every school day – I couldn’t do it without them.”
Today (2nd April 2019) judges Jeannette Orrey and Paula McIntyre visited Local Food Links to see Ashley and his team in action. They also visited Salway Ash CE VA Primary School to see pupils enjoying a choice of Chicken with Tomato Pasta and Green Beans or Homemade Tomato Soup with a Cheese Roll followed by Apple Crumble and Custard.
Local Food Links is also pleased to announce that it has been included in the Natwest SE100 Index 2019 which recognises and celebrates the leading 100 social enterprises each year.
