Bridport Town Council has announced that its round-Bridport bus service will be free for the whole of December 2018.
The move follows a decision to extend the pilot period for the service, operated by First Wessex on behalf of the town council. The bus will continue to operate until August 2019, when a decision will be made on its future.
Town clerk Will Austin said: “Councillors want to encourage as many people as possible to use the bus, and a free month is surely an incentive during the Christmas shopping period. Passenger numbers are gradually increasing, and those who use the bus tell us that it’s a real help, but the council wants to see more – we’ve always said it’s a ‘use it or lose it’ service.”
The normal fare – £2 single or £3 return – will apply again from January 2019.
Timetables and route maps can be viewed here. They are also available from local outlets, including Bridport’s bus Station and the TIC, and are on display at visitor attractions and on local noticeboards.
