Bridport’s award–winning Musical Theatre Company hits the stage again in April this time celebrating the best of the best, a decade of great and unforgettable shows in a Showstopper Spectacular.
This talented company explodes with exuberant energy, kaleidoscopic colour and scintillating sparkle and their anniversary show promises all this in abundance.
In a night to remember you can re-live the show-stopping hits from many of the great musicals. Imagine for a moment rock ’n roll and the angst of teenage love encapsulated in ‘Grease’, the sweet refrain of ‘Summer Nights’ and the excitement of ‘You’re the one that I want’.
Then, gently slide into a different world of song and dance with Cole Porter’s delightful 1930s ‘Anything Goes’ and its memorable ‘You’re the Tops’ and ‘I get a Kick out of You’. Bang up to date ‘The Book of Mormon’ sizzles with satirical fun and the new musical ‘Hamilton will dazzle with its fervour and energy set against the backdrop of revolution in an emerging America. Prohibition-era ‘Chicago’ will take you in yet another direction as it embraces the dark and precarious world of gangsters and gives us one of many memorable songs in the shape of ‘All that Jazz’.
The American underworld inspires yet another award-winning show, ‘Guys and Dolls’ with ‘Luck be a Lady’ and the infectious ‘Sit Down You’re Rockin the Boat’ guaranteed to get everyone to their feet. Musicals are nothing if not infectious and the razzamatazz of what has been described as ‘The mother of all show-biz musicals’, every young hopeful’s dream, the fabulous ‘42nd Street’ is no exception. And finally, no celebration of the musical would be complete without Leonard Bernstein and Stephen Sondheim and of course the wonderful, heart-breaking and unforgettable ‘West Side Story’.
The excitement will be electric, the toe-tapping non- stop and this glorious evening of song and dance will leave you with a smile on your face, a spring in your step and your heart bursting with joy.
